About the Burleigh Oxton Award
The Burleigh Oxton Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Educational Plant Maintenance Association of Maine. Named in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of educational plant maintenance, this award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to Maine’s educational facilities.
Recipients of the Burleigh Oxton Award represent the very best of our profession—individuals whose commitment to excellence has made a lasting impact on the schools and communities they serve.

Award & Scholarship
The recipient receives a plaque and a $1,500 college scholarship awarded in their name to a deserving graduate in their school district. The recipient is also recognized at a ceremony at the EPMA conference and again in the fall at a ceremony coordinated by their school and the award committee.
Who Can Be Nominated?
Any custodial or maintenance employee who is recognized for exemplary job performance, is passionate about maintaining clean, safe, and healthy learning environments, and serves as a role model for students. The ideal nominee goes the extra mile for students, staff, and visitors.
Who Can Submit a Nomination?
Nominations are accepted from school administration, school staff, parents, students, or school groups. There is no limit on how many nominations can be submitted.
What to Include
- Nominee’s name, address, and phone number
- Educational system name and address
- Supervisor’s name and address
- Your name and contact information (person nominating)
- Explanation of why this candidate was chosen and what outstanding performance(s) led to the nomination
- Any community contributions or activities the nominee is involved in
- Three references with name, address, and phone number
