Our Mission

The Educational Plant Maintenance Association of Maine exists to provide a self-governing, educational society for supervisory professionals in public educational environments. Our mission is built on five pillars:

•         To provide a professional community for those seriously interested in quality performance in educational plant custodial, maintenance, operations, and management.

•         To promote improved standards of educational plant workmanship and strive for recognition of such standards and the professional development of our members.

•         To provide training and instruction to all individuals employed in educational plant custodial, maintenance, operations, and management.

•         To introduce the newest methods and materials to those responsible for quality service in educational facilities.

•         To work with other organizations in advancing improved working procedures and establishing qualifications for individuals in the field.

Our History

Founded in 1961, the Educational Plant Maintenance Association of Maine has served the state’s educational facilities community for over 60 years. What began as a small group of dedicated facilities professionals has grown into a recognized statewide organization that collaborates directly with the Maine Department of Education.

EPMA continues to host its annual Custodial and Maintenance Conference—now in its 55th year—bringing together custodians, supervisors, facility directors, and vendors for two days of professional development, networking, and vendor exhibits. The conference has been held at Waterville Senior High School in recent years, with over 150 attendees participating.

EPMA is an active member of the National School Plant Management Association and is affiliated with the Northern New England Facility Masters Program.

Why Join EPMA?

  • Get dollar-saving and productivity ideas that have already been proven by peers at other Maine school districts. Learn what works before you spend your budget.

  • Tap into the experience of individuals who can help with new construction and renovation plans. Get practical advice from people who’ve done it before.

  • Have access to a statewide support group to help with any problems at your facility. Whether it’s equipment, staffing, or compliance, someone in the EPMA network has faced it.

  • Receive the training and education necessary to do your job effectively and efficiently. Monthly meetings and the annual conference provide ongoing learning opportunities at no cost.

  • Be a member of a group that is a stakeholder with the Maine Department of Education Facility Group. Get involved in the development of legislation and regulations that directly impact school facilities across the state.
